Save the ducks....

Last Saturday mum and dad went for a walk at a beauty spot not too far from home.Newmillerdam has a huge lake and walks all around it. There were lots of little ducks on the lake and quite a few nests. The plight of one lot of baby ducks had mum in a flap. There were quite a few people watching and wondering what to do. The little ducklings had all jumped down a big ledge at the edge of the lake and onto the fast flowing weir. They were of course unable to get back up to mum who watched from above. The water kept washing them back down ever time they got up to the top, but it was too high anyway to climb. Mum was saying cant we put a tree stump up for them to climb, cant we do this or that. It was also fenced off so would have meant a climb into danger for someone.

Just when everyone was getting realy worried, the little duck jumped down and calmly led the little ducks through the fast water and down under the bridge at the bottom. From there they swam serenely away to the other side. Mum ran across the road to see and they were all there at the other side. That then posed the problem of how did they get back accross the road. Dad was in no doubt the little duck would be fine.

That little duck made the huge problem look so easy and you could see her looking at the humans saying " Whats the problem " LOL

Take a look at some of the pictures. the ledge does not look as big in the pictures but it was..

Mum has some more pictures for tomorrow, when she has some funny one's of a mobile nest. LOL

Hugs to all GJ.

PS for some reason the post wold not scedule yesterday so mum had to pop it on when she came in from work. Trying again tonight.. GJ xx

The water was quite fast flowing..

Oh Babies....

What great pictures! We are so glad that the little ducks were OK! Sometimes humans do fuss a bit but we thought it was nice that your mum wanted to help and not just walk on by.
It just goes to show that mums always sort thing out!
Have a lovely weekend.

PS we saw on Khyra's post you are going to chase up Millie and Ben. As long as they are OK - just tell them we miss them!
We were worried Millie might have eaten the computer - or the house!

It's sometimes really amazing what animal moms can do to protect their children ! I think they are much better than we humans !
It reminds me a photo I have seen where a cat carried her kitten over a very busy main street and had stopped all the cars !

How very nice of your Mum to want to help them but I glad she did not need to in the end.
